22nd suicide prevention week : You are important for us!

For the 22nd suicide prevention week, some activities for the youth are being organized at Chez Pop's from February 5th to 10th. In Quebec, suicide is an important reality which affects many youths. The team of intervention workers took the lead to speak about this issue, to inform youth about the available resources, to break down the prejudices and the myths surrounding suicide, and discuss alternatives. The theme "You are important for us" will be used this year. For the suicide prevention week at Chez Pops, we will be using clothes pins where they can write a message of hope on it and give it to someone who is precious to them. The youth may also write down on a paper a message of hope or a theme that is personal and important to them and hang it on the clothesline. The goal of the activity is to give a chance to youths a way to express themselves on the subject. Finally, there will be a discussion group in the cafeteria about the myths and realities of suicide to create a dialogue with the youths.

An initiative of : Nancy Yank & Vicky Dumas, social work interns and Patrice Turcotte, social worker.
